Today, February 27, 2011 was the Jones 10 Mile Race in Amherst, MA. The race starts and finishes at the Amherst middle school. This race in particular comes at a challenging time, the dead of winter! Most runners (and non runners) would agree that this winter has been brutal since about Christmas. So in order to get yourself out there to this race you have to face the elements and be prepared to run in anything. Today the runners did just that, there was snow, slush, mud and potholes, however the runners ran hard and strong. The challenging course, incredible views, the crowd support, and volunteers make this race great!
Today’s overall winner was Justin Fyffe of East Dummerston, VT with a time of 52:13. Second place went to Jesse Regnier a former Umass graduate with a time of 54:24 and 3rd to Andy McCarron another former Umass graduate with a time of 54:58.
On the women’s side Heidi Westerling-Westover of Walpole, New Hampshire had her third consecutive win at Jones 10 Mile Race with a time of 59:12. Second place went to Tracy Joslin of Waitsfield, VT with a time of 1:07 and 3rd place went to Annie Paredes of Westfield, MA with a time of 1:09.
All of the runners ran an incredible race with the challenging course and climate.
